I have qualifications in multiple types of psychological talking therapies approaches including psychoanalytic, psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and mentalisation-based therapy.
As a dually trained psychiatrist and medical psychotherapist I’m qualified by the General Medical Council (GMC) to provide both psychiatry and therapy treatment for my patients. The advantage of being a Medical Psychotherapist is that I can objectively assess what the best psychotherapeutic approach is for your personal circumstances and symptoms.
I believe in taking a person-centred and personalised approach to treatment and therapy. While diagnoses and labels can be useful for developing a treatment plan, when it comes to the human mind there is no one size fits all solution. Over my 18 years of clinical experience I’ve worked with hundreds of patients who have each tried different approaches at different points in their life. I understand that what works for some patients doesn’t always work for others, which is why I create personalised treatment plans tailored around each patient’s unique needs, preferences and circumstances.
I have extensive experience and keen interest in ADHD. Often, people with ADHD are highly intelligent but they have been misunderstood and perceived as lazy or not intelligent in their schools, workplaces or society. Many of them get expelled from schools or dismissed from their jobs and often have significant relationship problems.Sometimes people with ADHD are also misdiagnosed with personality disorders. These negative experiences can lead people with ADHD to develop low self-esteem, depression or anxiety, and substance use may become a form of self-medication. However, in my experience, once people with ADHD receive the right treatment and support, the difference can be life changing. I’ve seen many of my patients with ADHD achieve what they never thought possible, attaining postgraduate university qualifications, progressing in their career paths and developing and maintaining fulfilling relationships.
I carry out a comprehensive assessment with standardised questionnaires and a semi-structured clinical interview, in accordance with The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines. The assessment usually takes about two hours and explores the severity of symptoms and their impact on your life. Following an ADHD diagnosis, I help my patients to understand their new diagnosis, what it means for them, and listen to their concerns or fears. We then discuss the treatment strategy together, including medication and psychological therapies.
I believe that the decision to take medication needs to be considered very carefully. I always give my patients a choice and explain the benefits and any side effects associated with medication and adjust dosages according to how they respond. Medication should provide effective relief from symptoms without causing additional problems, which is why I always carefully weigh the risks and benefits before providing my recommendations. I follow The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines on the use of medications. I would aim to reduce medication as soon as possible and when safe to do so.
I’m a Consultant Psychiatrist and Medical Psychotherapist registered with the General Medical Council (GMC). I have specialist qualifications in forensic psychiatry and medical psychotherapy. I’m a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych). Currently, I see patients in private practice at the London Psychiatry Clinic in Harley Street, London.
As a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, I specialise in explaining complex psychiatric formulations and ideas to a lay audience, and I have extensive expert witness experience consulting for legal professionals and giving evidence to the Courts, including The Central Criminal Court (The Old Bailey) and Court of Appeal.
I’ve gained extensive clinical experience working as a psychiatrist in the NHS since 2004. My previous roles have included working as a Consultant in Forensic Psychiatry & Medical Psychotherapy at several units and hospitals throughout the UK. In my most recent role at the East London NHS Foundation Trust, I worked with patients in one of the three national specialist hospital medium secure units within the Offender Personality Disorder pathway. I provided treatment for severely personality disordered (and frequently comorbid) men with a history of serious violent offending.
I’ve also held multiple leadership and teaching positions, both in my clinical workplace and nationally. I collaborated on the National Strategy for Forensic Psychotherapy Reference Group and Forensic Psychotherapy Special Interest Group with the Royal College of Psychiatrists. I’ve developed clinical guidelines for improved care pathways both for local services and nationally with Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service and also the Home Office. I have presented on practical, ethical and medico-legal issues at international conferences.

“Just because we think something doesn’t make it true.” The meaning we give to our experiences determines everything – especially how we feel, think and behave. Exploring these meanings in therapy can help you move forward from painful experiences and empower you with strength, purpose and hope.
