Our approach to treatment

At the London Psychiatry Clinic, you will work with highly trained and experienced psychiatrists who appreciate the complex nature of mental health conditions and the distress that they come with.

Our approach is evidence-based and open-minded, meaning that we develop holistic treatment plans that use a range of approaches, depending on your personal preferences. We often combine therapy or medication with psychoeducation (providing education and support for mental health problems) and lifestyle interventions (such as nutrition or exercise).

We encourage patients and parents to be actively involved in their treatment every step of the way. Still, we understand that some people may find this overwhelming or too difficult, in which case we can take the burden off your shoulders by providing a supportive infrastructure.

We see mental health as being influenced by a range of biological, psychological and environmental factors. Science doesn’t have all the answers yet, which is why we keep on top of cutting-edge research and every one of our psychiatrists is passionate about continuously researching new scientific studies in their area of speciality.

Across the team we have a significant amount of collective experience and expertise, meaning that we can provide you with expert advice and support for any condition. We appreciate that you will often be the expert on your own symptoms and experiences, and we’d like to work alongside you in order to create a personalised treatment plan that feels right for you.

For parents

Seeing your child struggling with a mental health condition can feel heartbreaking for parents. We understand that you want the best for your child, but finding the right help and treatment can be confusing.

We have a team of highly trained Child & Adolescent Psychiatrists and therapists for you. We are here to provide you with clear, practical information so that you can make an informed decision about the best path forward.

Every child is different and needs to be treated as such, regardless of what symptoms or diagnosis they might have. We can help you to find the right professional for your child.

At the London Psychiatry Clinic, we understand that children need to feel safe, supported and understood when they speak to a professional. Children and adolescents can often feel intimidated, embarrassed or shy when having to speak to a doctor. Sometimes they may find it difficult to articulate how they’re feeling.

Our aim is to put your child at ease and pick up on subtle signs of mental health conditions that may not be immediately obvious to an observer. When appropriate, we will carry out a standardised assessment according to the latest guidelines, but we make sure that assessments are flexible and customised to the needs of the child.

If a mental health condition is diagnosed, or any other difficulties are observed, we will develop a personalised treatment plan specifically for your child. The idea is to discuss all available options with you and your child in order to take into account your preferences. The treatment will include an integrated approach to help your child achieve their full potential in terms of their sense of wellbeing and self-confidence, relationships, social skills or school performance.

When recommending a treatment plan, we typically discuss options involving a combination of:

Therapy

sometimes we can deliver it ourselves, whereas in some cases we may suggest a specific therapist or psychologist who we think would be particularly suited to you

Medication

in cases where it is required or we think it would make a significant difference

Psychoeducation

providing education and support about a condition and its symptoms
